Literature Text

Emil sat on his bed, Mr. Puffin curled up next to him. He tried reading his novel, however, his mind kept wandering over to the Shade girl. He wondered if she would end up like her sister.

The silver haired Pure recalled when Elizabeta was still a half Shade. She was rebellious just as much as her sister was. But, the minute she came out of the sitting room, she was completely changed. Not just her appearance, but her entire attitude.

Elizabeta after the transformation was much more soft spoken, jumpy, and most of all, stressed. It was hard to tell if it was because of her sister missing or something else. Even Gilbert, her beloved partner, couldn't figure it out.

Emil had questioned his brother's means of transformation only once and he had been told to never bring it up again. But that didn't mean he still wondered about it constantly. The young Pure had made an appoint to run it by Mathias, one of Lukas's advisers and past lover, but figured that he wouldn't know either.

A knock on the heavy white wood doors snapped Emil out of his thoughts.

"Brother?"

"Hm?"

Lukas walked over to his younger brother and sat next to him.

"How is she?"

"The mutt? Fine. Just a bit tired."

"Could I see her?"

Lukas was unsure about letting his brother see the Shade, though asleep, she could wake up and attack at any given moment.

"She's tired from the transformation."

Emil knew that his brother was hiding something. He wanted to ask more about the new Pure.

"What's her name?"

"From what I hear, _____."

"When can I meet her?"

"Later, Emil."

The royal's tone became stern, warning his brother about what he was saying. It would be best if he dropped the subject.

"Okay."

"Good. Now dinner will be ready soon, alright?"

Emil nodded before Lukas exited the room.

* * *

All throughout dinner, Emil couldn't get his mind off his brother's words. Something was off and Lukas was definitely hiding something. Something about the transformations.

"Emil? Are you alright?"

The silver haired Pure looked up from his meal to meet pale peridot eyes. Eliza seemed better than she was earlier, but still edgy.

"Yeah, I'm just not too hungry."

Lukas raised an eyebrow at his younger sibling, but shrugged it off. He was probably thinking about the mutt, if she was okay. Lukas knew that he could not let her near Emil, she was not fully transformed, thus dangerous.

"I'm going to go back upstairs."

The royal gave a curt nod before Emil absconded the room. He had to find out about the girl, about Eliza. His first destination was the sitting room.

It was just as it was, nothing abnormal about it. Emil felt around the wall, trying to find something, anything!

Lukas had to have some sort of transformation device here somewhere. He told me to leave when he came in with _____.

After a good hour or two of searching, Emil found a doorway in the corner of the room, by the entrance.  It was cleverly disguised, covered in the same wallpaper and fairly small.

Emil pushed against the door, it clicked back, just enough to slide it over to the right. Once doing so, the young silver haired Pure saw a room, maybe ten feet by ten feet, decorated in the same wallpaper and carpeting, a white chair in the center. Heavy blue velvet curtains were covering most of the walls. Emil lifted one of the heavy window treatments up to see large light bulbs.

?

Under every curtain was an enormous bulb. Three were on each side, making the room extremely bright if turned on. Emil's eye widen as realization hit him.

Shades hate light and can't stand it. Pures hate dark and it causes them to suffer-

Everything started to fall into place. However, Eliza's change in attitude could not be changed when being exposed to light, could it?

Emil closed the door and exited the room before his brother found him. He blindly walked around the mansion trying to find answers, but found none. Though, his mindless walking brought him to Elizabeta's room. Emil doubted she'd remember, but it was worth a try.

"Eliza?"

The silver haired teenager opened the door to find Eliza sitting on a couch, reading a thick novel.

"Hello Emil, can I help you in any way?"

"Yes, do you remember anything about your transformation?"

Eliza's already pale features paled even more upon hearing Emil's question.

"U-Uh... Um, I don't remember much, just there was a lot of brightness at one point... That's just about it, I suppose. I always feel cold, though. And grimy. No matter how many hot baths I take, the feeling never goes away."

"Okay, thank you Eliza."

Emil was about to leave when Elizabeta stopped him.

"Be careful on what you look for Emil."

Emil nodded before leaving the room and walking towards his own, taking in what Eliza said.

"...I always feel cold, though. And grimy. No matter how many hot baths I take, the feeling never goes away."

Cold and grimy? Why would she feel that?

Sighing, the young Pure opened the door to his room and sat down on his bed in deep thought. Maybe he could explore the mansion in further detail. But it would have to be at night, when he is certain that his brother will be asleep.

Lukas paced around his room, frustrated. The council had told him that the girl must stay alive, even if that meant she remained half shade. He looked over to the couch where the girl laid down, still asleep. How could he keep control of her? The girl's morale was practically invincible.

Keeping her in the basement is out of the question. She could easily break out of the tower. Perhaps there is a spell to keep her sedated...

The royal walked over to his library and searched through various spell books, looking for one to keep the mutt under control. Lukas pondered about keeping her asleep, but he doubted the council would agree to that.

Sighing, Lukas placed the book back and walked out if his chamber to another room quite a distance from his. It had come to the point whence he would ask his advisor for assistance.

"Dane, how should I keep the mutt sedated?"

Lukas asked, but the question came out more of a command if anything.

"Have you checked all of your weird spell books?"

"Yes."

"Well damn..."

The spiky haired Pure in front of the royal scratched the back of his neck, deep in thought.

"Ever consider trying to win her over?"

"Dammit Mathias, romance isn't the solution. The mutt would probably rather kill herself. She's part Shade, remember?"

"Hehehe, right, forgot about that..."

Lukas sighed in frustration. This conversation was going absolutely no where.

"It seems as if you have no useful information for me."

"Well, see what happens when she wakes up."

Lukas thought about what Mathias had said, maybe he'll listen to him...

A flickering orange light reflected off the pristine platinum walls of the Pure's castle. Soft, discrete padding of feet echo in the enormous halls. Emil clutched the lit lantern tightly as he explored the castle. He was certain that his brother was asleep and that he'd have at least nine hours to look around. However, six hours had already elapsed and yet nothing was founder.

Emil found himself in the grand entrance of the grand Pure mansion and was wandering. This was the bottom most level, there must be something hidden somewhere. The floors were solid white granite and there were absolutely no imperfections. All of the marble columns were also solid. Determination kept Emil going. He had to know what his brother was doing.

Only an hour remained and the young Pure was becoming exhausted.  After checking all statues, Emil walked under the grand staircase and checked the walls. He ran his fingers over the intricate platinum patterns. A slight crack in the wall started the silver haired teen. He followed the lines and they formed a perfect rectangle.

With his remaining strength, Emil pulled the slab back to find an old looking elevator. Cautiously, he climbed in and shut the door behind him. Once the door shut, the elevator began to descend. After quite awhile, the door opened and Emil was greeted by complete darkness. A hissing was heard in the background.

Emil held the lantern out to see onyx floors and black decorum caved out of jet with glinting black crystals. The once glorious hall was nothing more than a musty old basement.

Was this once the Shade's castle grand entrance?

Exploring further, Emil found quite a few crates, some large, some rather small. Spider rats scurried across the floor, screeching occasionally. Holding the light up, he tried to get a better view of the area, but instead received a question.

"W-who's t-there?"

Emil shouted in surprise before regaining his composure. He quickened his pace and followed the direction of the voice. The person calling towards him had a familiar voice, but Emil couldn't put his finger on it. Deeper within the hall, he found a larger crate housing a shivering figure. What the young Pure found badly started him to the point of near nausea and fainting.

Dulled, emerald eyes stared back at his amethyst ones. A tangled mass of honey brunette hair sat atop a gaunt, pale face. The body was near starvation, bones jutting out oddly. A tattered grey cloak barely covering the thin skin stretched over brittle bone.

Elizaveta...
Yay, long chapter~

Sorry if there are any mistakes, I typed this during school on my nearly broken iPod.

Why is it that practically every chapter ends with Elizaveta's name :iconwthenglandplz:
